The Miller and Ben Tap Shoes are sized with European sizes which have smaller increments between half sizes then American sizes, which helps obtain a better fit.
There are two ways to size for The Miller & Ben Tap Shoes online.
- Approach # 1 - Check and see if you have any street shoes in European sizes and base your order on that size.
- Approach # 2 - Convert your American street shoes size, not other tap shoe sizes, on our conversion chart, found on our fitting page.
When trying the shoes on note that we are looking for a snug fit, not painful! You may need to use a shoehorn to get the shoe on.
Still not sure what size to order? Call us at 1-646-383-4949.
Order the same width as in your street shoes. If you buy narrow or wide in street shoes, you most likely will need the same width in our shoes. If you don't know, stay with the regular width.
In the Miller & Ben Tap Shoes, Narrow, Regular and Wide width only refer to the toe box and not the heel cup. If you have a narrow heel, stay with the regular width shoes.
Also note, on narrow shoes, the toe taps installed will be the smaller Capezio Tele-tone #3 in order to accommodate the narrower sole.
They are not. If you are looking into purchasing the T-Step, Classic Jane, New Show Girl or La Coquette, these shoes run wide. We recommend that you order a narrow if you normally wear regular in street shoes, or a regular if you normally wear wide.
There is no one style that is better than the other, it is more of a personal taste by the dancer or their teacher. If you do have a local store near you carrying our shoes, try them both on and find the best one for you.
Here are a few points to help you decide:
- The JTM has double sole on the entire shoe, while the TT has 3 layers on the front, going into a single sole toward the arch. This is also known as a 'build up.'
- Because of the extra sole, the TT is ¼ inch higher than the JTM.
- The TT is designed primarily for "Toe Stands" and the JTM is best suited for 'Paddling and Rolling'. (That doesn't mean that you can't do "Toe Stands" with the JTM or 'Paddle' with the TT.)
- Triple Threat will have more flexibility due to the single middle sole once broken in.
- The JTM has a more sophisticated and lighter sound while the TT has a louder sound.
Still not sure and do not have a local store carrying the M&B Tap Shoes near you? Check with your tap friends or teacher and see what style they have. It might help you in making a decision.
The Royal design is a pattern template used to decorate the upper leather. Standard design does not have this decorative pattern. The Royal template cannot be altered or divided into sections on your shoes.
Our smallest size is 34 Narrow in European sizes, which is equivalent to American size 4 Women's / 2 Men's.
If you are not sure of your child's adult shoe size, trace their feet on a sheet of paper and measure the length. If the length is less than 8 inches we will not be able to accommodate their size.
As the M&B Shoes are handmade we have the option to add extra space to accommodate an insert. Adding that feature will change the sizing in your shoes. If you do not normally wear inserts in your shoes, we do not suggest you add the Orthodic Feature to your order.
Keep in mind that any order with the Orthodic Feature is a final sale and cannot be exchanged. We strongly recommend speaking with someone at our offices if you are interested in orthodic enabled shoes.
Some professional tappers like to install the taps themselves, or might have other brand preferences for the taps on their M&B shoes. Due to that, we offer the option to buy our shoes without the taps already installed on them.
If you would like us to install the taps on your shoes, we will install the best fitting taps. Capezio taps (on most shoes), as well as Super Sonic on the wide / larger toe sizes, and Super Taps - H10 on the larger heels.
To add the taps and installation to your order without specifying, simply click on the "add the best fitting taps including installation" when ordering, and we will take it from there.

Yes you can! There is no problem exchanging your shoes if the taps were installed by us. When you receive the shoes, be sure to try them on a carpet or soft surface but not more than 5-10 minutes, so there will not be any wear or damage to the taps or shoes.
Yes we do. We know that many dancers are eager to get their M&B color shoes, and do not mind switching their preferred color combination into something in stock.
To accommodate those dancers we keep a big inventory of different shoes, colors, and styles in our warehouse in New York. To check on what color options are available at the moment, please call us at 1-646-383-4949.
Yes they are, any one of those shoes can be exchanged to a different size or color, if they do not fit or are not to your liking when you get them.
Be sure to try them on a carpet or some other soft surface, so there will not be any wear or damage to the taps or shoes.
Repeat shipping costs will apply.
Once a custom order is placed you will receive a confirmation email that will notify you on expected delivery time, and a list of in stock shoes in your size that are available for immediate shipping.
We do not do so in our facility, but, any local cobbler will be able to add rubber to your shoes after we install the taps.
Keep in mind, as the rubbers are placed behind the toe taps, your cobbler should not remove the taps. They may not know how to reinstall them correctly afterwards.
We do not recommend adding rubber to the Miller & Ben Tap Shoes as it most likely will throw the shoes off balance.
Yes they will. Once the shoes are broken in, they will naturally stretch about half a size, and will form to the shape of your feet. The sole of the shoes will break in as well and will give you the ability to stand on the balls of your feet without any resistance.
Unless it is a must, don't give them to a cobbler to stretch, as they might come back too large than what you intended.
Our shoes are well built in order to last for a long time, but because of that, they take a bit longer to break in. We recommend dancing with them in intervals of 15-20 minutes for the first few sessions until they become more flexible, and form to your feet. Do not over dance in the beginning, or you will get blisters.
As our shoes are all leather, any product used to polish or maintain genuine leather should work well.
